Popular Diet Myths Debunked

Diet Myths

There are so many diet myths that it is hard to know which one are simply that. In fact the confusion is so extreme that many people do not know fact from fiction when it comes to dieting. We’re heard some of them a thousand times so we think that they must be true. That is why it is time for you to learn which diet myths can officially be debunked.

Dropping Calories

The premise of a diet is to burn off more calories then it takes in. That basically means that you need fewer calories in your body then what it actually needs to maintain the weight you have now. If you take in too many calories your body accumulates fat which makes you heavier. When you are on a diet you normally take in fewer calories which helps you lose the fat. However, besides dropping calories you need to make sure that what you are eating is healthy and good for you, not just less calories then what your body needs. Simply taking away certain types of foods as the myths suggest will not make you healthier in the long run.

Meal Replacements

Another myth is that meal replacements such as Slimfast actually work. They claim that they have low fat and high protein substances that will help you to avoid 1 or 2 meals a day. Yes, they will fill you up for a certain period of time, but it is not healthy to eliminate meals from your diet. Also, when you stop drinking the Slimfast, you are just going to gain back the weight, so what is the point? Cutting calories is good, fasting is not good.

Drop the Carbohydrates

Yet another myth is one that so many buy into. They think the best way to lose weight is to drop the carbohydrates from their diet. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Losing carbs totally is such a bad idea because your body actually needs some forms of carbs. Instead of dropping all of them completely, which is impossible if you want to stay healthy, you need to look towards whole grains and healthy carbs such as nuts, legumes, and fibrous foods. If you eliminate carbs altogether like some of the popular diet plans like Atkins and South Beach suggest you are only going to make dieting so difficult for yourself that you will eventually quit. It is better to choose a low fat, low calorie, and low carb diet so that you do get a bit of everything in healthy doses. Carbs give you the feeling of being full, so as long as you eat moderate amounts of them you are well on your way to being healthy and thin.

Drink 8 Glasses of Water

The last myth that people love to use in their diet is the myth about drinking 8 glasses of water per day. Yes, it is great for your body to drink water, but it will not make you lose 100 pounds if you need to. It will hydrate your body and keep it running well, and it will certainly give you a fuller feeling after you drink it, but water alone will not lose the weight for you. You need exercise and proper eating to do that.

use common sense

Diets can work for you but you have to use some common sense, and research in great lengths what you read. It is important to know all the facts before you decide whether what someone says is absolutely true.
